Introduction (10 mins.) First, T shows some flashcards featuring some well-known symbols (Heart, swastika, peace and infinity symbol) to Ss and asks them about their meanings. Then, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to match some images with their meanings. Development (20 mins.) Ss match some objects/characters with their meanings. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss read the story “Peter and the wolf” and identify the symbols within it. Then, Ss match these symbols with the corresponding ideas and illustrate them. T invites volunteers to share their answers with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) Review key concepts and encourage students to look for symbols in their favorite stories outside of class. Provide feedback on their participation and contributions. Homework: Choose a favorite story or fairy tale from your own culture or one that you enjoy. Identify at least three symbols within the story and write a short paragraph explaining their meanings. Development (20 mins.) First, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to complete sentences about classic tale characters where similes are used. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. After that, Ss read some metaphors and similes and illustrate them. T checks Ss’ work before feedback. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss discuss and create their own metaphors of similes about some concepts. T invites volunteers to share their answers with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) T provides any correction needed on Ss’ production and provides feedback. Homework: Choose a short paragraph from your favorite classic tale. Then, rewrite the paragraph by adding one or two metaphors to describe the characters or events. Be creative and make sure to keep the meaning clear. |
