Introduction (5 mins.) T introduces the topic of myths and asks Ss if they have heard any of them before. So, T shows images of well-known myths and asks Ss to identify their names. Finally, T encourages Ss to share their thoughts or prior knowledge. T elicits from Ss more myths they know. Well-known myths:
First, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to match mythologies with their characters. After that, Ss read summaries of 5 well-known myths and identify them. Finally, Ss complete the characteristics of myths. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss complete the characteristics of myths. Conclusion (5 mins.) Ss read some statements about characteristics and vocabulary words of myths and decide if they are true or false. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback. Homework: Choose one myth from any culture that interests you. Write a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) introducing the myth. Include where it comes from and a brief summary of its story. Identify and list three characteristics of myths that you can find in the myth you chose. Draw a picture related to the myth and write a sentence describing your drawing. Introduction (10 mins.) T hangs four pictures of well-known myths on the board and asks Ss what they about them. T writes a list of vocabulary words and asks Ss to match them with correct picture. Development (20 mins.) First, Ss identify on a map the main mythologies around the world. Then, Ss match the six mythologies with the corresponding dates. T checks Ss’ answers with the whole class. Consolidation (10 mins.) T provides each S with a timeline template and asks them to place the mythologies seen on it. Ss add the dates and drawings to represent them. Ss share their work with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) T provides any correction needed on Ss’ production and provides feedback. Homework: Explore myths further in their own time. Consider the cultural context in which these myths originated and how they reflect the values, beliefs and worldview of the society. |
