Introduction (5 mins.) T shows Ss an image of a glass slipper and asks them if they know which fairy tale it is. T encourages Ss to share their thoughts or ideas and elicits more details of this story from them. Development (20 mins.) T hangs some images of Cinderella story from various parts of the world on the board and asks Ss to describe what they see. T encourages Ss to identify differences in each version. So, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to complete some synopsis about Cinderella stories from around the world. After that, T asks Ss to match the different versions of Cinderella with the countries in a map. Consolidation (15 mins.) Ss complete some summaries of Cinderella stories. Conclusion (10 mins.) T asks Ss to listen to some true/false statements carefully and decide whether each statement is true or false. True/false statements 1. Aschenputtel, the German Cinderella, received help from a magical hazelnut tree (true). 2. The French Cinderella lost a golden shoe at the royal ball (false). 3. Yeh-Shen was a slave (false). 4. Rhodopis became a queen (true). 5. Tattercoats' true beauty shone from within, and her outward appearance was never magically altered in the story (true). Homework: Research a short summary of another Cinderella story from a different country. For example:
Introduction (10 mins.) T engages in a brief warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge of fairy tales. T asks Ss to name some famous fairy tales and their elements. For example: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Key Elements: Protagonist: Snow White, a beautiful and kind princess. Antagonist: The Evil Queen, Snow White's jealous stepmother. Magical Help: The seven dwarfs provide shelter and protection to Snow White. Setting: A castle, a dark forest, and the dwarfs' cottage. Magical Creatures: The Evil Queen's magic mirror. Climax: Snow White eats a poisoned apple and falls into a deep sleep. Conflict: The Evil Queen's jealousy and her attempts to harm Snow White. Resolution: Snow White is awakened by the prince's kiss, and the Evil Queen meets her fate. Themes: Jealousy, kindness, and the triumph of good over evil. Moral Lesson: Kindness and goodness prevail, and jealousy leads to self-destruction. Development (20 mins.) Now, T tells Ss that they going to analyze a Chinese version of Cinderella called "Yeh-Shen". So, T provides Ss with some images of the characters of the story and asks them to make predictions about them. After that, T distributes copies of the Yeh-Shen story. T reads the story aloud as a class, pausing to explain any challenging vocabulary or concepts. T encourages Ss to follow along and underline or highlight key elements in the story as they listen. After reading, T asks Ss decide if some statements are true or false.
Ss identify the elements of the story completing a table. Ss check their answers in pair before feedback. Conclusion (10 mins.) T asks Ss to share their favorite part of the Yeh-Shen story or the character they liked the most. Then, T encourages Ss to explain why they chose that part or character. Finally, T summarize the lesson and highlight the importance of identifying story elements for understanding narratives. Homework: Ss complete the characteristic of fairy tales. |
