Lesson plan
Introduction (10 mins.) T shows some flashcards featuring some well-known fable characters (Tortoise, Fox, Ant & Sheep) to Ss and asks them about their traits. T writes Ss' answers on the board. Ss take notes. Development (20 mins.) First, Ss match fable characters with their meanings for the story. After that, Ss read the fable “The Cat & the Birds” and then complete some sentences. Finally, Ss read the fable again and match meanings of symbolism with objects or characters. Consolidation (10 mins.) First, Ss illustrate the symbols in the story “The Cat & the Birds”. Then, write their meanings. T invites volunteers to share their work with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) Review key concepts and encourage Ss to look for symbols in their favorite fables outside of class. Provide feedback on their participation and contributions. Homework: Choose a favorite fable from your own culture or one that you enjoy. Identify at least three symbols within the story and write a short paragraph explaining their meanings. Introduction (10 mins.) First, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to match metaphors with the corresponding meaning. T review the definitions of metaphor and simile and provides examples and encourage Ss to identify the figurative language. Development (20 mins.) First, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to complete sentences about fable characters where similes are used. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. After that, Ss match metaphors from the fables with their corresponding meaning. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss read the fable “The Fox and the Crane” and identify the similes within it and then write their meanings. T invites volunteers to share their answers with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) Ss answer a short quiz about the topic. |
