Introduction (5 mins.) T engages Ss in a short discussion about their favorite songs and why they like it. Development (30 mins.) T introduces key vocabulary related to songs, such as lyrics, chorus, verse, melody, rhythm, etc. T shows visual aids, gestures or use whiteboard to illustrate each term providing simple definitions. T practices pronunciation of each word as a class, repeating after T. T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to match the vocabulary with the descriptions. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. T plays a song for the class, pausing at intervals, T encourages Ss to follow along with the lyrics and underline any unfamiliar words they hear. T review the underlined words as a class, discussing their meanings and how they relate to the song. Consolidation (10 mins.) T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to label the parts of the song. After that, Ss answer some questions. Conclusion (5 mins.) T engages the class in a brief discussion about the song they listened to and the vocabulary they learned. T monitors and assists as needed. Ss prepare a short presentation describing the characteristics of the genre and share examples if possible. T allows time for questions from other groups. Conclusion (5 mins.) Ss answer a short quiz. Homework: Listen to a song from your favorite genre and write a short paragraph about it. For example: I really like rock and after listening to the song "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses, I feel excited and energized. The fast beat and powerful guitar riffs make me want to move and dance. I really like the singer's voice. His name is Axl Rose. The lyrics talk about a wild and adventurous place. |
