Introduction (10 mins.) T introduces the topic of the Aztecs. First, T show pictures or illustrations of the Aztecs. So, T elicits responses from Ss about what they see and what they already know about them. After that, T provides a brief overview of who the Aztecs were, where they lived, and their main achievements. Development (20 mins.) T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to decide if some sentences are true or false about the Aztec civilization. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. After that, Ss complete some facts about the Aztecs. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss read a short passage about the Aztecs and answer some comprehension questions. Conclusion (10 mins.) T provides Ss with a map of Mesoamerica and asks them to highlight the location of the Aztec Empire and important landmarks such as Tenochtitlan, Lake Texcoco, Valley of Mexico, and geographical features such as oceans, rivers, and other civilizations. T monitors the activity and provides help as needed. Homework: Create a timeline about the Aztec civilization. Include illustrations or simple descriptions for each event. List of dates about the Aztec history: 1325: Founding of Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the Aztec Empire. 1428: Formation of the Triple Alliance between Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. 1431: Ascension of Itzcoatl as the ruler of Tenochtitlan, marking the beginning of Aztec expansion. 1487: Completion of the Templo Mayor, the main temple of the Aztec capital. 1519: Arrival of Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés in Mexico. 1521: Fall of Tenochtitlan and the end of the Aztec Empire, following the Spanish conquest. 1524: Establishment of Mexico City on the ruins of Tenochtitlan by the Spanish. Introduction (5 mins.) T shows pictures representing different Nahuatl words and elicit their meanings from Ss. If they do not know them, T writes the words on the board and asks Ss to match them. Development (25 mins.) Ss watch a video about the Nahuatl language. After that, Ss answer a quiz. Finally, Ss read a short article, then complete it. Ss check their answers in pairs before feedback. Consolidation (15 mins.) Ss play “Nahuatl bingo”, where they mark off vocabulary words as they hear them called out in Nahuatl. Conclusion (5 mins.) T discusses the importance of preserving indigenous languages like Nahuatl and how learning them helps to honor and respect diverse cultures. Homework: Search 10 words in Nahuatl and their meanings. |
