Introduction (10 mins.) T hangs some flashcards on the board and labels them from the letter A to F. Then, T reads a description of one of them at a time and asks Ss to guess which one is it. Finally, T asks Ss "What do these pictures have in common?". So, T introduces and explains the concept of intercultural society. Development (20 mins.) First, T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks them to match intercultural interactions with some descriptions. After that, Ss complete a text about the topic. Consolidation (10 mins.) T asks Ss to read a short conversation and answer som comprehension questions. Conclusion (10 mins.) T asks Ss if they have met someone from a foreign country and what they have learned. Questions: 1. Have any of you had the opportunity to meet someone from a foreign country? 2. What did you find most interesting or surprising about meeting someone from another culture? 3. Did you learn anything new or gain a different perspective from your interactions with people from foreign countries? 4. Have you ever shared your own culture with someone from a foreign country? If so, what was their reaction, and what did you learn from that experience? Homework: Searh for information about a foreign country or culture. Gather information about its customs, traditions, and etiquette. Introduction (10 mins.) T plays a short video showcasing cultural diversity from around the world. Then, T asks Ss open-ended questions. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phfz2JLu1I4 Questions: 1. What did you see in the video? 2. How are people from different cultures similar or different? 3. What aspects of diversity are important to you? Development (20 mins.) First, T asks Ss to complete a text about the ethnic diversity in the United States. After that, Ss match the sentence halves to complete the sentences about ethnic diversity. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss match the aspects of ethnic diversity with the examples. Conclusion (10 mins.) T asks Ss to listen to some true/false statements carefully and decide whether each statement is true or false. True/false statements 1. The United States has a long history of ethnic diversity. (True) 2. African Americans have not made significant cultural contributions to American society. (False) 3. The concept of the "melting pot" suggests that all ethnicities blend into a single culture. (True) 4. The United States is a predominantly homogeneous nation. (False) 5. Hispanic and Latino populations have had little impact on American culture. (False) Homework: Search for information about a famous American immigrant who has made significant contributions to one or more fields such as science, technology, politics, art, or culture. |
