Lesson plan
Introduction (5 mins.) T defines what a fable is and discuss common characteristics (short stories with animals as characters, moral lesson, etc.). T brainstorms examples of famous fables and their moral lessons. Development (25 mins.) T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks to read synopsis of famous fables and match them with their names. Then, Ss match main ideas of fables with their corresponding names. Finally, Ss read a short fable and decide if the statements are true or false. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback Consolidation (15 mins.) T hands out a jumbled text of the story of a fable and asks Ss to put it in order. After that, T provides with a list of comprehension questions related to the fable. Ss answer the questions. T reviews the answers as a class and discuss any misunderstandings. Conclusion (5 mins.) T asks volunteers to retell the fable in their own words, focusing on the main ideas and moral lesson. T encourages Ss to share their thoughts and opinions. Homework: Read a fable carefully and reflect on the moral lesson on it conveys and write a summary highlighting the main plot points and characters involved. Finally explain the moral lesson of the fable. For example: Summary: A hungry wolf had a bone stuck in his throat and looked for help. The crane offered to extract the bone with her long beak. After successfully removing the bone, the wolf refused to reward the crane, claiming her service was easy. The crane left feeling deceived. Moral lesson: One should not expect any reward for serving the one who has no honor. Explanation: Don't help those who don't appreciate it. Being around selfish people won't help. Helping should be done with kindness, not expecting anything in return. Introduction (10 mins.) T hangs 4 pictures of people on the board. Then T writes 2 headings (Description of the situation and Moral value). After that, T invites volunteers to come to the front and pick one piece of paper with the situation and moral value and try to match them with the corresponding picture. Development (20 mins.) T hands out a worksheet to each S and asks to read synopsis of famous fables and match them with their names. After that, Ss complete the main events of 5 fables. T checks Ss’ answers and provide feedback. Consolidation (15 mins.) Ss read the fable “The boy who cried wolf” and answer some comprehension questions. Next, T invites volunteers to share their answer with the class. Conclusion (5 mins.) T reviews key moral lessons learned from the fables and encourages Ss to reflect on how they can apply these lessons in their own lives. Questions:
