Introduction (10 mins.) T introduces the topic of legends and asks Ss if they have heard any legends before. T shows images of well-known legends and asks Ss to identify their names. T encourages Ss to share their thoughts or prior knowledge. Development (20 mins.) T hands out a worksheet to each pair of Ss and asks them to match synopsis from famous and well-known legends with their names. Then complete the main characteristics of legends. Consolidation (10 mins.) Ss draw a table with the characteristics of the legends seen in class. T asks Ss to share their ideas with the class. Conclusion (10 mins.) Ss answer a quiz about the topic. Introduction (10 mins.) T hangs two pictures of the volcanos (Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl) on the board and asks Ss if they know them. T shows a map showing the location of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in Mexico. T asks Ss if they know the legend about these two volcanos. T introduces the legend of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, providing a brief overview and highlighting its significance in Mexican culture. T presents key vocabulary words related to historical, geographical, and cultural context, such as legend, volcano, princess, warrior, etc. Development (20 mins.) T introduces the elements of the legends. Ss match the elements of the story with the descriptions. Ss complete a short extract of the legend "Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuat" and identify the protagonists and antagonists in the story. Consolidation (10 mins.) T instructs the Ss to choose either protagonist and antagonist and draw the character based on their understanding of their personality. T encourages Ss to consider the traits and characteristics discussed in the lesson when creating their drawings. After completing their drawings, T asks Ss to share their artwork with the class. Ss can briefly describe their drawings, highlighting the personality traits they tried to capture. T provides Ss with some sentence frames or prompts to encourage Ss to describe the characters and their relationships with each other. As a class, discuss the different interpretations and representations of the characters' personalities. Conclusion (10 mins.) T provides any correction needed on Ss’ production and provides feedback. Homework: Ss must read the legends "La llorona" and "Charro negro" for the next class. |
