1. Watch a video about the newspaper publication/article. In this case is 9/11 attacks in New York City.
2. Hand out copies of different front pages from EDCollection Newseum. Then, ask students to look at them and write down observations about headlines, photos, colors,  and the position of textual and graphic elements. 
Answer the following questions:
  • What do you notice on the front pages? 
  • How does the article make you feel?
  • How do the use of color and texts convey the mood? 
  • What is your opinion about it?
Choose two articles to compare.

3. Compare the  main parts of the 2 newspapers using a table: name of the newspaper, section, dateline, headline, drop head, byline, lead, and important details.

4. Read the articles and highlight important details and background information, then answer the following questions:
  1. What happened?
  2. Where did it happen?
  3. When did it happen?
  4. Who was/were involved?

​5. Compare the information between the 2 articles.
  • This article is as (adjective) as that one.
  • In my opinion, both articles are (adjective).
  • The information here is not as (adjective) as that one.  
  • This article is more/less (comparative adjective) than that one.
Adjectives: interesting, boring, serious, informative, original, important, genuine, influential, comprehensive, remarkable, etc.  ​​

 6. Use a graphic organizer to compare 2 newspaper publications.
